Common Problems

First make sure the bot is installed on your server, then check if the bot has the necessary permissions to operate.

The bot could have stopped working because of quota limits, check your server's stats using the -translate server command.

You might be also banned from using the bot by a server admin. Contact us if you still experience problems.

If you see empty messages then it means you have disabled a special setting in your Discord account. To fix this, do the following:

Account Settings > Text and Images > Link Preview > Enable.

This only occurs when Discord's service is experiencing an outage or connection issues.

Repeated messages do not affect your quota.

You can temporarily kick the bot from your server and monitor Discord's official status page.

Direct messages with the bot are disabled since stats and premium plans are tied to Discord servers. DMs are also unreliable and often get erased from the bot's memory.

Unfortunately, Discord does not allow bots to join private groups. You could create a private server instead.

The bot could have insufficient permissions (cannot read or write), the channel could be configured to ignore commands, or you could be banned from using it.

In case you are trying to use localized commands, then check the language setting of your channel or server.

Check if your server has reached its translation quota, otherwise make sure the channel is not part of an auto-group since that overrides same-channel translation.

When the commands fail, it means the bot does not have the necessary permissions, or the user has a higher role than the bot.

For example, you cannot run the command for server owner or admins; in that case you will need to manually assign the auto-translate role.

Translating other bots and webhooks is experimental, some bots use advanced formatting for their messages which makes it harder for Translator to parse the content correctly.

There are also limits on maximum number of characters per message. If you are a bot developer, contact us for better integration.

General Usage

Yes, there are more than 10 styles to choose from. Check the Text Styles page in the Wiki for instructions and previews.

Yes, however, support for bots and webhooks is experimental. Check the Wiki page for more information.

The bot must be able to view channels, read messages, send messages, manage messages and read history for basic functionality. The full permissions requirements are listed in the Wiki page.

Simply set the server or channel to your language with the settings command. If you are not an administrator, you can set the language for yourself only by adding --language to your nickname, for example: john--spanish.

We recommend muting all language-channels that are not relevant for you.

Alternatively, admins can manage access to language-channels or language-categories through speaker roles so that English speakers, for example, would only be able to view English channels (advanced configuration).

As translation is a service provided by Google Translate (Google Cloud), you can join the Google Translate Community, which actively improves and adds new translations for human review. You are welcome to submit improvements which will be implemented over time.

This indicates that the bot is in maintenance mode. That means we are preparing for a bot update or performing service checks. All interactions are disabled while the bot is in maintenance mode.

It got disabled due to spam/abuse. We recommend using flag reactions to translate specific messages or setup automatic translation.

TTS functionality is currently disabled due to slow transmissions. We're currently working on server upgrades for smoother TTS interaction.

You can contact us directly via Discord at our official Discord server.

Payments and Limits

The bot is a paid service because we pay Google for their translation API, plus costs of hosting, development team and technical support.

Pricing is based on characters, which means all letters, numbers, symbols and spaces consume your characters quota.

If the same message is translated to multiple languages at once, then the count is multiplied by the number of languages.

For example translating hello to Spanish and French counts as 10 characters combined.

Auto-detection of language also counts for the quota.

It means the maximum allowed characters to be translated from every message.

Discord's maximum characters limit is 2000. The limit on characters translated per message varies based on your premium plan and configuration.

Messages which are longer than the allowed limit will be truncated and suffixed by three dots (...).

No. We do not charge money automatically since we use a pay-as-you-go model. You alone control the payments and renewals.

Yes, we allow transferring of the full quota or part of it in case you want to distribute the characters to multiple servers. Transfers can only be requested by payers.

Contact us for a transfer request.

The bot will stop translating messages. You will also receive an error message to warn you about it. At this time you can either renew or upgrade your premium plan to activate the bot again.

We currently accept payments through PayPal. Let us know if you're interested in other methods. For large orders we could allow direct bank transfers (contact us for details).

Yes. It is not necessary to be a server owner or admin to purchase a premium plan.

Keep in mind that you can also transfer your premium plan to a different server if you wish, at any time.

The money we receive is directly paid to external vendors like Google, which makes refunds difficult. However, if you sent a payment by mistake then it is possible to cancel your order.

You can contact us at pay@nvu.io for any questions related to refunds and cancellation.

Write the -translate stats command for an overview of your server information and statistics, including trackers for daily and monthly usage, remaining quota and limits.

No, premium plans are tied to a Discord server. Once the bot is activated for your server, all members can benefit from it and use it to translate.

In an effort to reduce the burden of cost on one person, we accept funds raised by multiple people.

No, there are no time limits or resets. Your quota will only end after you have translated the total allowed amount of characters of your premium plan.

You can buy 10 million characters or more, which is practically unlimited, depending on your server's size and activity. If you are interested in high volumes, then contact us for options.
