Personal Translation Has Arrived

It is now possible to translate messages privately by installing the Translator bot for your Discord account. Installing the bot on a Discord server is no longer required.

• New: Synced Categories

  • Want to tag someone who is not in the channel? With this new command, you can tag anyone in the server without any restrictions.

• Shortcut Commands

Translation Appearance / Display

• New Settings

  • Remove Emoji: strip all emojis from the translation output
  • Show Source Text: add the original text to the translation
  • Author Name: add global nickname of user as option of author display
  • Ping Languages: added option for users to select which languages are allowed to ping them

• New Style Option: S10 - Hybrid

Editing

In the past, when a messages was edited, Translator would delete the related translations, and then post a new translation. This broke the conversation flow especially for old messages. We are happy to announce that Translator will now edit the existing translations instead of delete-repost.

Translation Ignoring Settings

Introducing new settings to control translation conditions.

• New Settings:

  • Ignore Source Languages: block detected or explicit source languages from translation (up to 2 in free trial, 5 with premium)
  • Ignore Target Languages: block target/destination languages from translation (up to 2 in free trial, 5 with premium)
  • Minimum characters for translation
  • Maximum characters for translation

Settings Reset

New list of commands to help you clean up settings en masse. For complete list of commands, use the -t reset command.

  • Reset settings of channel: -t reset channel

• Notes

  • It is possible to reset a specific setting using the reset value, for example: -t server style reset
  • This only resets Translator bot settings
  • Warning: resetting settings is irreversible, use with caution!

• Auto Remove Flag Reaction

  
  Added a new option to make the bot remove a flag emoji reaction from the original message after translation.

    • In Dashboard: Select server > Server Settings > Remove Flag Reaction > Yes
    • Slash command: /server flag_remove true

• Personal Settings commands:

  Personal settings of individual users can now be configured within Discord using these new commands:

  • Overview: -t personal or /personal
  • Custom Language: -t personal custom [language] or /personal custom_language
  • Dashboard Theme: -t personal theme [value] or /personal theme
  • Dashboard Language: -t personal uilang [value] or /personal ui_language

• Auto Same shortcut command:

  Similar to the command -t auto set, we now added -t auto same to configure automatic translation in the same channel with a single command. Format: -t auto same [language1,language2,...]

  • Examples:

    • Translate all to English: -t auto same en
    • Translate all to English and Spanish: -t auto same en,es
    • Translate all to English and Spanish and French: -t auto same en,es,fr

• Translate to Thread:

  • Threads created by Translator are now automatically archived and locked
  • Threads will get automatically deleted if translation deletion is enabled

• Free Trial:

  • Maximum number of free characters decreased from 20,000 to 5,000

• Dashboard Changes:

Silent Translations

Translations requested through flag emoji or interactions can now be configured to be silent, meaning they will be posted without a notification, making the bot less intrusive for other members of the server.

• Configuration:

  • In Dashboard: Select server > Server Settings > Translation Destination > Silent
  • Slash command: /server flag_destination silent
  • Classic command: -t server flagdest silent

Ephemeral/DM Translations

DM translations will no longer send double notifications. In addition, when DM is configured as the option for translation destination, translations requested through message context menu button (Apps > Translate) will be ephemeral, this means the translation remains in the original channel but only visible to the user who requested it.

Custom Translator Permission Roles

The bot now supports assigning custom roles for server members to use in permission levels.

@translator-mod role allows users to manage channel settings using commands.

@translator-admin role allows users to manage server settings using commands or the dashboard.

Custom Server Emojis

By default, translating using a flag emoji only works when reacting with Discord's built-in flag emojis. With this new feature, you can translate to any language you want using custom emojis you add to your server. Names must be formatted in the following manner:

• Format:

  • Starts with flag_ or translate_
  • Use _ to separate target languages
  • Use __ to add transliteration script
  • Use ___ to separate between source and target language (only once)

• Examples:

  • Translate to English: flag_en
  • Translate to English and Spanish: flag_en_es
  • Translate from English to Spanish: flag_en___es
  • Translate to Romaji: flag_ja__la
  • Translate from German to Romaji: flag_de___ja__la

Flag Emoji

Reacting with a flag emoji to a message results in translations to all the official language(s) of the selected flag. Due to popular demand, we have changed a number of flags to result in only one official language instead of all, this helps users avoid extraneous translations when they intended to receive a translation in a single specific language. In an effort to reduce discrimination, we focused only on languages that do not have unique flags for them. The affected flags include: Algeria, Belarus, Bosnia And Herzegovina, Brunei, Finland, Vatican, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho, Luxembourg, Samoa, Somalia, Switzerland, Uruguay, Kosovo, and Zimbabwe.

• Free Trial:

  • Maximum number of free characters increased from 10,000 to 20,000
  • Disabled voting message

• Dashboard Changes:

  • Login will no longer require authorization screen when user is already authorized
  • Improved display of member role in Server Overview page
  • Selecting a server at payment page is now required
  • New languages added: French, Japanese, Spanish, Russian, Chinese (Simplified), Korean, Portuguese, Dutch, Italian, Polish (Select your language in Account Settings > Language)
